Why Niural?
At Niural, engineering is at the core of delivering complex financial infrastructure in a way that feels intuitive, reliable, and scalable. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will contribute directly to building backend systems that support payroll, payments, and compliance workflows used globally.
You’ll work on meaningful product surfaces where performance, correctness, and user trust matter. This role offers the opportunity to grow technical depth while contributing to production systems that operate at scale.
About the Role
You’ll architect globally scalable backend systems across serverless infrastructure and hybrid data models. You’ll define standards for reliability, cost efficiency, observability, and security.
You’ll lead cross-domain initiatives, mentor engineers across levels, and shape the backend roadmap powering a high-scale financial platform. This role requires strong distributed systems expertise, product intuition, and the ability to drive long-term architectural decisions.
Responsibilities
- Architect and lead development of globally scalable backend systems.
- Define and evolve backend architecture standards across serverless and relational systems.
- Design advanced data strategies across DynamoDB and Postgres.
- Lead multi-service and cross-domain initiatives.
- Design event-driven systems for reliability and extensibility.
- Own service reliability, scalability, and cost strategy.
- Establish observability, monitoring, and incident response standards.
- Lead high-severity incident resolution and postmortems.
- Design multi-region and high-availability systems for global scale.
- Drive security and compliance considerations in architecture.
- Mentor and develop mid-level and junior engineers.
- Lead backend hiring and technical calibration processes.
- Partner with product leadership to align the backend roadmap with business strategy.
- Proactively identify long-term architectural risks and scalability challenges.
- Foster a culture of ownership, initiative, and engineering excellence.
Requirements
- 6+ years of backend development experience in cloud-native environments.
- Expert-level proficiency in Python.
- Deep understanding of distributed systems principles.
- Strong experience designing scalable serverless architectures.
- Advanced DynamoDB expertise (access-pattern modeling, cost optimization at scale).
- Strong Postgres expertise (complex query optimization, transactional integrity, scaling strategies).
- Experience designing and implementing event-driven systems.
- Strong AWS architecture and infrastructure-as-code experience.
- Proven track record of leading backend teams or major initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in high-scale, global production environments.
- Strong product and business acumen.
- Ability to make high-impact architectural decisions under ambiguity.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and mentoring capabilities.
